Petition for Sanitary Living Conditions and Clean Eating Utensils- Written by: Jason Renard Walker

Petition for Sanitary Living Conditions and Clean Eating Utensils
By Jason Renard Walker, Deputy Minister of Labor, NABPP-PC
As I explained in a previous piece, we prisoners at the Ramsey Unit in Rosharon, TX, have to drink discolored and contaminated water. Besides this, we are being forced to live, eat and congregate under conditions that are egregiously unsanitary. Every cell has a colony of roaches living in it.
Throughout this prison are many cellblocks. Each cellblock has a number of cells that remain closed while we are in the day room. Several times a day we are allowed to go in or out, but never long enough to wash our hands or use the bathroom.
In response, the dayroom toilet area is used rapidly and throughout the course of the day. For one reason or another, since my arrival to this prison on 11/1/17, our cellblock in particular has no sink or hand washing station in or near the dayroom bathroom. I tried to grieve this issue but nothing has been done.
This contradiction has caused prisoners and guards to use the drinking cooler as a place to wash their hands. Without the presence of soap, and with the water being cold, germs are being spread from the toilet area to the drinking area. This can make the passing of E.Coli and many other surface germs possible.
In fact, a bad throat virus is going from one guard and prisoner to another. There are no flu-like symptoms, only an uncontrollable cough and throat pain. I believe this has something to do with the cooler water being used as a sink. Given that the nozzle is broken, water runs down the outside of the cooler, then into our cup. In order for it to be refilled, this same area has to be touched.
During an audit in relation to a prisoner’s death, Lieutenant Joe M. Lopez was advised to have a sink installed pronto, which he has failed to do. He was also told to replace the cooler (which he did), but brought back the old one as soon as inspection was complete.
The Need for Clean Eating Utensils
The need for clean eating utensils has been an ongoing problem, just like the others. Except during the inspection (when paper plates and cups were used to conceal the practice), we’ve been forced to use plastic cups, trays, and spoons that have a red greasy film on them, which only smears when we try to wipe it off.
Chunks of food from past meals, like mashed potatoes and mustard, can be found inside the cups and all over and underneath the trays.
This is a unit-wide known problem, but despite complaints, nothing has been done. One way we were able to partially remedy the problem was by taking our own cups and spoons to the chow hall.
Our personal cups and spoons look similar to the chowhall’s, but we were told by Sgt Hughes that this would no longer be allowed. He’s aware of the unsanitary utensils, admitted that he wouldn’t let a dog eat from them, and stated “sounds like a personal problem to me”, when a prisoner protested about the unclean trays.
I request that the support I gained to receive all of my property back be applied to this dilemma. With the help of Warden Powers and the Ombudsman, Lopez and others were exposed and disciplined for their role in having my property confiscated.
If the same effort is applied here, we will be able to reap the benefits of the change that will come as a result. File complaints to Warden Powers: 281-595-3491 and send emails to the Ombudsman. Let them know that these problems have been presented to Lieutenant Lopez, Sergeant Hughes, and Warden McMullen and the grievance staff, but have not been addressed.
[TYPIST'S NOTE: you should also be able email McMullen at virgil.mcmullen@tdcj.texas.gov, the Texas Ombudsman at Ombudsman@tdcj.texas.gov, and email McMullen's immediate seniors at John.Werner@tdcj.texas.gov, Tawn.Roddey@tdcj.texas.gov, Steve.Massie@tdcj.texas.gov and Billy.Hirsch@tdcj.texas.gov. You can also contact the Region III Director's Office at (281) 369-3736.
A quick script you can use would be:
Hello, I am contacting you to make a complaint about the unsanitary and unhygienic conditions at the Ramsey Unit. Some cellblocks have no functioning sinks or hand washing units around the bathroom, which has led to inmates and guards using the drinking coolers as hand washing units, rendering the drinking coolers unsanitary and unfit for purpose. In addition, inmates have complained of their food being served with unsanitary cups, trays and spoons that still contain rotting food debris. These issues have been presented to Lieutenant Lopez, Sergeant Hughes, and Warden McMullen and the grievance staff, but have not been addressed.
Please be aware that you may be held responsible for any harm that may come to any inmate at the Ramsey Unit as a consequence of your negligence and failure to fulfil your duty of care towards these inmates.
Yours,
[NAME] ]

Comrade Malik of N.A.B.P.P. (P.C.) Responds to article by Michael Novick Regarding T.A.C.O. and BRLP- Written by: Keith "Malik" Washington

Comrade Malik of N.A.B.P.P. (P.C.) Responds to article by Michael Novick Regarding T.A.C.O. and BRLP

By Keith “Malik” Washington
2/5/2018

“Our point of departure is to serve the people wholeheartedly and never for a moment divorce ourselves from the masses, to proceed in all cases from the interests of the people.”
-       Mao Tze Tung, “On Coalition Government”

Revolutionary Greetings, Comrades!

I am responding to an article penned by Comrade Michael Novick which appeared in the Jan-March 2018 edition of Turning the Tide (Vol. 30 No. 1).  Michael’s article was entitled “Self-Criticism:  Regarding My Relationship with T.A.C.O. and the Black Riders Liberation Party.”

In Comrade Michael’s article he referenced a statement released by the NABPP (PC) concerning T.A.C.O. and the BRLP.  For the record, I can state that I am intimately familiar with all of the circumstances which led to the NABPP (PC) statement.  Self-criticism and criticism are integral parts of revolutionary practice.  We (revolutionaries) engage in this practice in order to address problems and to resolve contradictions which expose themselves while we are engaged in this protracted struggle against Imperialism and White Supremacy.

Comrade Michael states in his article that he is not a Maoist.  In fact, I am a Socialist and I also spend a huge portion of my time studying Marxism and Anarchism.  Many of my close friends and comrades are Maoists, Anarchists, Marxists, and most importantly to me, Abolitionists!  Prison abolitionists to be exact.  Now allow me to give you a little history on our Party.

The New Afrikan Black Panther Party (Prison Chapter) was founded in April, 2005, as a pre-vanguard organization that pushes the “Theory of Revolutionary Intercommunalism” and “Science of Revolution,” as theorized and practiced by Marxist-Leninist-Maoist parties around the world.  Our co-founders are Kevin “Rashid” Johnson and Shaka Sankofa Zulu.

Our job/mission as Black Panthers fall under two categories:

1)    To situate the original Black Panther Party as an aggressive proletarian organization committed to the ultimate remedy of “Revolution” as the solution to the immiseration of New Afrikan (Black) people everywhere.  Our co-founders and respected elder and mentor Tom Big Warrior felt this Party was necessary to create because the original BPP was being subjected to the revisionist’s knife of petty bourgeois intellectuals who wanted to portray the party as reformist, with a social democrat bent; we reject that history.  That was our first mission and that ideological struggle against the party’s detractors remain alive and kicking.
2)    To engage and mobilize the energy of those in the lumpen-proletariat class who are fed up with existing on the margins of the nationalist capitalist economy and who have encountered mass incarceration as an instrument of counter-insurgency as a result.  The drug dealers, pimps and gangsters who prey on the people have found themselves struggling with a whole new reality when confronted with the viciousness of mass incarceration, which has posed several problems that necessitate immediate solutions.

Why was I given 50 years for a petty coat robbery; why was I placed in solitary confinement torture chambers for refusing to work; why does it seem as if the police, prosecutor, public defender and judge are working in cahoots to jail my black body?!

We the NABPP (PC) are not advancing a non-materialist view here when we say that the New Afrikan youth’s first thought of “something here is wrong” starts right there in kindergarten, when the filthy, gun-slinging pig places plastic handcuffs on her for “talking back.”  The encounter between the New Afrikan youth and the enemy pig consists of state repression and state oppression; of a despised people who continue to be the floor-mat for the ruling capitalist class to walk on!

Most of these words are those of our Chairman Shaka Zulu who is currently in the transition stage from slave pen to free society.  Eventually, our goal is to see our Party constituted as a free-world political party that can provide an alternative to the current corrupt Imperialism two-party system in Amerika.

The NABPP (PC) is an above-ground, legal movement.  We do not advocate or support any illegal activities.  Our party stands for the liberation of Black people and all oppressed people everywhere!

Enter the Black Riders

Now that I have given you a little background and insight into the political philosophy of the NABPP (PC), allow me to state for the record that from a Revolutionary’s standpoint, I love General T.A.C.O. and I love the Black Riders Liberation Party.

However, in Black Skin, White Masks, Fanon said:  “Today I believe in the possibility of love; that is why I endeavor to trace its imperfections, its perversions.”

Comrades, what happens when an individual you love and an organization you love begin to engage in actions and behaviors you despise or even hate?  What happens when you refuse to acknowledge those mistakes and you remain silent?

Well, obviously a contradiction arises!

I was appointed to the position of Deputy Chairman by the Central Committee of the NABPP (PC), and when the information about General T.A.C.O. surfaced I was privy to all information as well as all of the recommendations made by the African People’s Liberation Tribunal which was initiated by the Committee to look into the matter.  The members of the Tribunal and the Committee were made up of the respected elders and veterans of the Black Liberation Movement; their credentials were and are impeccable.

It’s been a couple years since I first saw the allegations against T.A.C.O. and the BRLP.  There were intense inner-party conversations pertaining to this subject.  I am not at liberty to reveal the contents of our inner-party conversations, but I can reveal my thoughts and input.

When I first reviewed the documents which included T.A.C.O.’s response to the allegations of commandism and inappropriate behavior, I scoffed at them, thinking to myself and sharing with my comrades that this was an FBI, COINTEL-PRO move to attack one of our “shining stars” in the revolutionary Black Liberation Movement.

You should know that to many of us prison Panthers and politicized freedom fighters, General T.A.C.O. had become our hero!  For real!  But it gets deeper than that.  The BRLP for self-defense does real work in the hood!!  They love New Afrikan people!!  When Black and Brown people needed clean water to drink in Flint, MI, the Black Riders were there!  When Hurricane Harvey hit the city of Houston, TX and devastated neighborhoods and communities of color, the Black Riders teamed up with the National Black United Front in order to provide survival supplies to the people!!

When Comrade Michael first told me a couple months ago that he was planning to embark on this self-criticism path, I backed him 100%!  It hurts, you know?  However, a lot was happening in regards to my education as an activist and humyn being and Michael had the courage to do that which I did not!

Sisters and brothers, the NABPP (PC) does not promote, condone, or sanction commandism, patriarchy, male chauvinism, msysogynistic behavior or actions, and we damn sure don’t condone the sexual abuse or assault of our fellow sisters in the struggle:  hell no!

I want y’all to think about something for a minute:  if I will confront the President of the United $tates in regards to his bigoted and sexist behavior and remarks, do you think I am going to allow T.A.C.O. to “make it”??

I can’t tell the Black Riders what to do, but I can offer a few suggestions in reference towards a program of restorative justice and accountability.  I don’t know about you, but I believe we need the Black Riders Liberation Party to survive this.

Restoration and Accountability

Comrades, in the fall semester of 2017 a fairly well-known LGBTQ activist, scholar and freedom fighter/abolitionist professor named Dean Spade reached out to me and asked me would I be interested in participating in a course he was teaching entitled “Policing, Imprisonment and Justice.”  His teacher’s assistant Danny sent me the syllabus and professor Spade purchased all the required textbooks and sent me all the required reading and more!

A key topic in our class was violence against Black wimmin and wimmin of color!  I was introduced to a who’s-who of Black feminist scholars, activists and survivors!!  I was introduced to transgender folks who are confronted by abuse daily.  But most importantly, I was taught about methods and programs which can be used to heal the victims of abuse and violence and also the abuser!

In retrospect, especially after finishing this course taught by Professor Spade, I firmly believe that the African People’s Liberation Tribunal was trying to give T.A.C.O. and the Black Riders the opportunity to engage in something called “transformative justice and community accountability.

Sister Mariame Kaba of Project NIA says that the goals of transformative justice are:
-       Safety, healing and agency for survivors
-       Accountability and transformation for people who harm
-       Community action, healing and accountability
-       Transformation of the social  conditions that perpetuate violence (systems of oppression and exploitation, domination and state violence)

During the college course, I learned that community accountability is not just a reaction we have when someone behaves violently; it is also a pro-active, ongoing thing negotiated among everyone in the community.

You see, sisters and brothers, we the members of the NABPP (PC) are fallible; we make mistakes in our analysis of conditions sometimes, but we are not afraid of facing our citics or admitting wrong and fixing these mistakes.

I am positive that our Minister of Defense, Rashid, as well as our Chairman Shaka Zulu will weigh in on this topic.  I am going to end my statement with some words concerning accountability directed directly toward T.A.C.O.:

Comrade T.A.C.O., I have been one of your most avid supporters within my organization.  But I can no longer associate with you or remain silent.  I am asking that you embrace accountability for the good of the Black Riders.

To me, accountability means being responsible to myself for my choices and for the consequences of my choices.  For me, accountability is an internal skill, not an external process.  T.A.C.O., nobody can force you to be accountable.  And lastly, I will tell you that accountability is a rigorous and difficult process.

May Allah (SWT) direct your path and may Allah (SWT) protect all the Black Riders from the shaitan and the snares of this corrupt-ass white supremacist in the White House!!   I could say more but I’ll end there.

Dare to struggle; dare to WIN!  All power to the people!

1/27/18 Visit with Comrade Malik- Written by: Azzurra Crispino

What struck me the most about meeting Malik in person is how funny and
goofy he is. My mental image of him is a serious activist who works 16
hours a day, so I was surprised at how personable he is.  His bushy
beard can’t hide his huge smile. He’s a bit of a health nut, too –
what he wanted most was fruit and, since there was no bottled water
left and no juice available, lemonade.

When I first sat down, he asked me about the drive and how I was
doing.  I want to take a moment to describe the drive to Eastham. I
went to Texas A&M and I’ve done the drive from Austin to Bryan more
times than I can count. I was not expecting the drive from Bryan to
Eastham. The county roads are heavily wooded and peaceful, but what
struck me most were the road signs. Usually, there are signs saying
how many miles to the next town. Not so when driving to Eastham: each
of these signs list a prison and its distance in miles. What would our
communities be like if these facilities were doing something
constructive for our society?

Malik wanted to get down to business: changing the culture of
corruption and exploitation in TDCJ, and especially at Eastham. I was
shocked at his praise for the warden, Billy Lewis and Major Kent, the
youngest major in TDCJ. I spoke to Kent after my first visit with
Malik, and I found myself relating to him. I genuinely believed he
wanted to help people make positive change in their lives by working
in ‘corrections’. I disagree with Kent’s methods, but I found myself
nodding and respecting the man.

There were two specific examples of shifting the culture at Eastham
Malik wanted me to tell everyone. Both related to the Christian
fellowship group and how they helped other inmates. During Harvey,
these Christian inmates tended to the elderly and infirm who were
overcrowding Eastham unit, making sure they were as well-taken care of
as they could be in the circumstances. On Christmas Day, they sang
carols to the other inmates. As I spoke to Major Kent, I watched
handsomely dressed men and women come in to the Chapel (formerly a
gym) to share and worship with the prisoners. It was heartwarming to
see the building of connection across the razor wire.

At the end of our visit, we got to take pictures. Since Malik remains
in administrative segregation over the trumped up "conspiring to riot"
charges from the Sept 9th 2016 prisoners strike, we cannot get
pictures taken together - we can only speak through the metal grate.
"Get a picture taken, too" Malik tells me. I realized in that moment
that even if the picture was not of us together, he could put them
next to each other and have a concrete memory of our visit. If just
one thing came out of this visit, it was being able to give Malik a
picture of himself in his kufi and beard. As I write this, I wonder
whether he even has a mirror to be able to see himself. I am going to
cut the kite strings on this blog so that I can mail him the pictures
back and he can see himself, and us, together.

GRIEVANCE INVESTIGATOR TERI HALL FIRED FROM EASTHAM FOR FAILING TO PROCESS INMATE GRIEVANCES! - Written by: Keith "Comrade Malik" Washington

Eastham Unit Grievance Investigator Ms. Teri Hall FIRED for covering up and failing to process complaints from Abused Prisoners!!!

By: Keith "Malik" Washington

In a shocking turn of events at the Eastham Ad-Seg Unit I was informed by TDCJ employees that Teri Hall the Grievance Investigator at Eastham Unit located in Lovelady, Texas has been officially FIRED.  The story reads as if it would appear in one of the numerous tabloids.  The only difference is THIS IS NOT ENTERTAINMENT this is Real Life and has HURT NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS-- Please allow me to elaborate.

I have been incarcerated and housed at the Eastham Ad-Seg Unit since November 10, 2016.  Many may remember that I was charged with a Fabricated Riot Case one day Before a National Prison Work Strike took place here in the United State on September 9th, 2016.

For well over a year, I have fought the bogus charges and used the corrupt Grievance Program TDCJ (Texas Department of Criminal Justice) makes available to all prisoners.  For months I and a fellow prisoner named Noah Coffin have alleged that Teri Hall one of the grievance investigators at the Eastham Unit had been mishandling our complaints and attempting to obstruct our Access to the Courts.  I have actually filed a Lawsuit in Federal Court claiming this and numerous other violations of Constitutional Rights to include: Retaliation, Toxic Water, and a Conspiracy to Violate my Civil Rights among other claims.

On February 1st, 2018 I was notified by TDCJ employee Kentrius Lockhart- Eastham Mail Room Supervisor that Teri Hall the FORMER Unit Grievance Investigator at Eastham Unit had been Fired!

I had recently filed a grievance requesting that the F.B.I. investigate Teri Hall and the entire Eastham Grievance Department in reference to noticeable appearances of a conspiracy to violate prisoners rights by tampering with the grievances we file and sabotaging the Due Process Rights of prisoners who utilize the Grievance Program in order to address the Constitutional Violations.  I specifically requested that the F.B.I. look into Teri Hall's relationship with a former Eastham employee: Juan Manuel Torres.  Torres a MIXED MARTIAL ARTS PROFESSIONAL FIGHTER had been employed at the Eastham Ad-Seg Unit located in Lovelady, Texas.  Torres had established a horrible history of excessive physical abuse of many prisoners and had been promoted to the Rank of Lieutenant,.  Please note: TDCJ has a history of promoting officers who abuse human beings.  Torres used his Mixed Martial Arts Skills to abuse Ad-Seg prisoners and in fact had assembled his own personal "Beat'em Up Squad".

Approximately 3 weeks ago Teri Hall took a few days off and Administrators decided to conduct an inspection of Teri Hall's Work Space.  What they found was absolutely SHOCKING!  Teri Hall had over 30 UN-processed grievance complaints from prisoners who had been victims of her Boyfriend Juan Manuel Torres' Physical Abuse!  Teri Hall had routinely failed to submit these grievances via the proper channels and therefore violated these prisoners Right to Due Process and Obstructed their Access to the Courts!  These are claims which Noah Coffin and I had alleged for Months!!

This story is far from over as the agency of TDCJ re-hired Torres and placed him at a Unit in the Huntsville area!  Furthermore we still have not heard anything from the Federal Bureau of Investigation we have all heard the words Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity being associated with the Bureau but more and more we are seeing that the F.B.I. is nothing more than a tool of the Ruling Elite to be used as a WEAPON against the people!! Especially those who fight for Freedom, Justice, and Equality for ALL!

I humbly request that members of the Activist and Legal Community share this Media Release with Mainstream Media Outlets and ask them to question TDCJ Public Information Officer Jason Clark about the un-ethical and immoral practices of Teri Hall and Juan Manuel Torres and that we push for a thorough investigation at the Eastham Unit.

I continue to fight for my release from Ad-Seg and I also ask for support for my friend Noah Coffin who continues to be a victim of retaliation because he dares to speak truth to power.

Dare to Struggle, Dare to Win, All Power to the People!

Criminalizing “Panther Love” and the New Wave COINTELPRO Tactics in Texas Prisons by Keith “Comrade Malik” Washington

Criminalizing “Panther Love” and the New Wave COINTELPRO Tactics in Texas Prisons

by Keith “Comrade Malik” Washington
Deputy Chairman of the New Afrikan Black Panther Party (Prison Chapter) – Texas Region

“Panther Love is revolutionary love, liberating love, world-changing love. Panther Love is a concrete expression of our social commitment to the masses as well as a moral stance that breaks free of the old and backward social relations in the Black sub-culture of criminality and gang warfare and in the 'perfumed circles' of the Black bourgeoisie.” - excerpt from “Mass Line of the New Afrikan Black Panther Party”, by Shaka Sankofa Zulu, Chairman, NABPP (PC)[1]

Revolutionary greetings, comrades!
We continue to see and hear lies coming from US Law Enforcement and Intelligence Agencies in respect to their hyper-surveillance of groups and individuals who are New Afrikans and who engage in constitutionally protected activities such as protests, rallies, marches, litigation and political efforts.
Many mistakenly believe that the fascist oppressors within the US are only interested in disrupting the New Afrikan organizations in free society. With this essay, I seek to give a detailed explanation into the ongoing campaign of retaliation and harassment the members of the NABPP (PC) have been subjected to.

We Are Not Black Separatists!

Kevin “Rashid” Johnson is the Minister of Defense for the NABPP (PC). Prior to Rashid's arrival in Texas (June 2013), I had read about his experiences with the Virginia Department of Corrections. One day I was studying a volume of the journal Socialism & Democracy and in the footnotes to an essay written by Rashid, I noticed a report by the Virginia State Police and the Virginia Fusion Center.
I was very alarmed because these Fusion Centers were established post 9/11 in order to promote the sharing of intelligence information among federal, state and local law enforcement in the manufactured war against Islam & terrorism.
In other words, you usually only hear the words “Fusion Center” in the context of counter-terrorism investigations. I read the analysis provided by the Virginia State Police and they had classified and falsely labelled Rashid as a Black separatist!
For clarification's sake, I state for the record that the NABPP(PC) is an above-ground political organization that embraces socialist and communist doctrines. We are anti-racists, anti-imperialists and we do not promote, condone or sanction illegal activity. We do believe in self-defense and we do believe in serving the people with a special focus on the incarcerated lumpen in the US, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. We are abolitionists who can't wait to see the demise of the prison-industrial slave complex. Our broader vision is to create conditions where a dictatorship of the proletariat becomes a stark reality within the United States and throughout the world.
It is clear that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had a special interested in Rashid and the NABPP(PC), but the $6 million dollar question is “why”?
Rashid spent a large amount of his time reporting on the barbaric conditions and heinous acts of abuse he witnessed and at times was subjected to at Wallens Ridge and Red Onion slave kamps in Viriginia. So what made Rashid such a “person of interest” to the pigs at the Fusion Center?
I believe scholar & activist Angela Y Davis may be able to shed some light on that as I quote from her essay, Political Prisoners, Prisons and Black Liberation:
“Finally, a major catalyst for intensified political action in and around prisons has emerged out of the transformation of convicts, originally found guilty of criminal offenses, into exemplary political militants. Their patient educational efforts in the realm of exposing the specific oppressive structures of the penal system in their relation to the larger oppression of the social system have had a profound effect on their fellow captives.”[2]
This quote from Professor Davis does an incredible job of illuminating the real “Rashid” Johnson. However, what has happened is that DHS has collaborated with the State Police and various prison agences throughout the US in order to abuse their authority and discretion to make or create terrorism suspects out of prisoners who exercise their constitutionally protected Free Speech Rights!
Since I took time to illuminate who and what Rashid is really about, let's take a closer look at the fascist pigs at DHS and see what they are about. Here is a quote from Department of Homeland Security spokesman SY Lee in an email sent to the Intercept:
“The Department of Homeland Security fully supports the right of individuals to exercise their First Amendment rights and does not provide resources to monitor any specific planned or spontaneous protest, rally or public gathering.”[3]
Well, I think Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street, and the Water Protectors at Standing Rock would agree that these are lies!
Most people who follow Rashid's work know that he is no longer here in Texas. After doing multiple exposes describing the untimely deaths of numerous prisoners who were housed at the Bill Clements Unit in Amarillo, Texas, Rashid was unceremoniously transferred out of Texas to Florida, where he continues his revolutionary journalism.

All Eyes on Me!

Truthfully, as far as my situation is concerned, I knew something wasn't quite right when I was at the HH Coffield Unit in Tennessee Colony, Texas, in 2016.
I got serious about the Movement to Amend the 13th and End Prison Slavery in November of 2015. In March 2016, the San Francisco Bay View National Black Newspaper published my essay, End Prison Slavery in Texas Now[4]. This was the first time I did a serious critique and analysis of the ultra-racist and bigoted prison agency known as the Texas Department of Criminal Justice [sic!].
In April 2016, there were multiple work stoppages at various male and female prisons across Texas. When the dust settled, the prisoncrats and legislators were mad as hell. Who was stirring up our “Happy Slaves”?
The first move was made in May 2016 when the TDCJ-CID director William Stephens retired. He was replaced by Lorie Davis. I soon discovered that Lorie Davis had vowed in her her heart to place me in long-term solitary confinement. The first step was to find a snitch/informant who could get close to me and track my moves. They found a Muslim prisoner who I had befriended, we will call him “Big Boy”. I was going to refer to him as “Big Man”, but I decided that would be disrespectful to the original Big Man, Comrade Elbert Howard. No! This fool could not hold Comrade Elbert's jock strap, so we will stick with “Big Boy”.
In June 2016 at the Coffield Unit, I became the target of a full-fledged investigation conducted by multiple agencies.
Bruce Toney of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Robert Grant of the TDCJ Security Threat Group Department along with members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, FBI and DHS all wanted to know what Keith “Malik” Washington was up to.
I spent most of the month of June 2016 in pre-hearing detention on the H-Line at Coffield. My status was Transient (Other), the “Other” was a special indicator that I was the subject of an investigation but no-one would say who was investigating me. Then something extra-ordinary happened.
On or around June 21st 2016, Big Boy was visited by STG and OIG/DHS officials from Huntsville, Texas! When I pressed him about the meeting he broke down and said “they were wanting to know about you, Malik, but I didn't tell them nothing.”
OK, so here I am in lock-up under some mysterious investigation – the pigs come see my closest comrade on the unit? Very strange!
Things got even stranger from there! One week later, after “Big Boy” met with his new handlers, I am released from lock-up. I am given a job on the utility squad I was moved to a laid-back housing unit called N-Wing, or Nancy-Wing, at Coffield. Would you like to guess who was housed directly above me on Nancy-Wing? That's right, my respected comrade – “Big Boy” – the informant.
While all this was going on, other dedicated members of the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee (IWOC) were being subjected to “New Wave” COINTELPRO tactics.
Imam Siddique Abdullah Hasan was targeted by a Muslim volunteer in Ohio who falsely claimed that my brother in struggle asked him to bring in some type of explosive device!
You see comrades, there was a co-ordinated effort by the US Government to disrupt the organizing of the 2016 national prison work strike!
Specific prisoners were targeted! After the September 9th work stoppage began, the tactics of repression became even harsher. Kinetik Justice of the Free Alabama Movement was set up to be assassinated by the Alabama Department of Corrections! The method they used was withholding Kinetik's high blood pressure medication and isolating him in such a manner that his free world support network couldn't reach him!
Kinetik survived. However, we must understand that as we proceed in this protracted struggle to abolish legalized slavery in Amerika that the prison agencies and US Government (FBI, DHS & JTTF) will collude and conspire with each other in order to harm our most advanced political elements. It may be that we have become blind to the sinister nature of the capitalist ruling class and their dupes inside the labor aristocracy.
Abolishing prison slavery has been characterized as a threat to national security, and those of us who have defined ourselves as dedicated freedom fighters have been labelled as domestic terrorists!
Lorie Davis, the director of TDCJ's Correctional Institution Division, hatched a plan to take me out! She had me placed in positions where I would face attacks and threats to my personal safety and security.
Days before September 9th 2016, she had a white supremacist placed in my cell who had attempted to decapitate a Texas senator's wife! Then she had me transferred to the Telford Unit in New Boston, Texas. I was there only a month when I was placed on a bus in which there were 3 bloody assaults. I had no enemies on the bus, which was headed to the Eastham Unit in Lovelady, Texas. Once on Eastham, things really began to develop into a full-fledged counter-intelligence operation.
Lorie Davis, Robert Grant, Eva Shiver and Bruce Toney have shown themselves to be rabid racists and white supremacists. They orchestrated the fabricated riot case and place me in ad-seg (solitary confinement). They created a bogus Security Threat Group designation and confirmed me as an STG, and then they attempted to infringe upon my religious rights by fabricating an arbitrary Escape Risk designation!
And most people would think that this would be enough for them, but it wasn't!
“Big Boy” the informant had done such a good job slithering up close to me at the Coffield Unit that TDCJ/OIG/DHS/STG decided to run him at me again, but this time I was ready!
In March 2017 I discovered that “Big Boy” had arrived at the Eastham Unit in Lovelady, Texas! I smelled a funky-ass rat.
I really want you to understand the high-level collusion we are dealing with here.
Coffield Unit and Eastham Unit are in totally separate regions within the framework of the corrupt and racist TDCJ prison agency. So this move operation had to be coordinated by TDCJ State Classification Committee members in Huntsville, Texas. Employees Bonnie Fiveash, Tara Burson, Region I Director Tony O'Hare and the sinister and conniving Lorie Davis! All of them engaged in an elaborate conspiracy to violate my Civil Rights!
And what exactly am I guilty of? Striving hard to achieve the following goals:
  1. Pay for all Texas prisoners and a clear path toward Freedom!
  2. Clean and safe water supplies for prisoners and guards
  3. Eradication of black mold in Texas prisons
  4. Proper treatment for mentally ill prisoners
  5. Closing down these ad-seg units and abolishing the death penalty in Texas
At the end of the day, these are my perceived “crimes” against the state!
If there is one thing that I want everyone to learn this Black History Month, it's that the FBI in Amerika executed and assassinated our most promising and gifted Black Leaders during the Civil Rights Era! The FBI continues to target Black organizations, Black individuals, our communities and neighborhoods. Their tentacles have stretched into these Department of Corrections all over the United $tates.
While here at Eastham Unit “Big Boy” reported to Security Threat Group Sergeant Richard Stower – another bona fide white supremacist who feigned ignorance when I questioned him about his spy tactics. Eastham Unit Prison Officials utilized “Big Boy” to infiltrate the Muslim community in order to place my brothers in harm's way!
With the help of the National Lawyers' Guild – Prisoners Legal Advocacy Network I have been able to expose Lorie Davis and all of her dupes who work in the Prison Administration at Coffield, Eastham, and throughout TDCJ.
What we have discovered in Texas, Ohio, Alabama, California, New York and all points between is a program not much different from the FBI's original COINTELPRO activities which sought to:
“expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit or otherwise neutralize the activities of black nationalist, hate-type organizations and groupings, their leadership, spokesmen, membership and supporters, and to counter their propensity for violence and disorder.”[5]
Comrades, this is not my language, this is from J Edgar Hoover's FBI, a memo from 1967. The targeted organization was the original Black Panther Party.
Fifty-one years later, and nothing has changed at the FBI. The FBI is still targeting New Afrikans who engage in Civil Rights and Humyn Rights Activism. Christopher Wray, the current director of the FBI, has created a new “label” for us – Black Identity Extremists. As with most police agencies in Amerika, the FBI is full of bigots and white supremacists, they just have advanced college degrees.
I want to be crystal clear about a few points: one is that there are white folks in Amerika and Europe who have strongly supported the right to self-determination of black people, Palestinians and wimmin! Not every white persyn is a racist, but we must call out those who are and isolate them. Activists and freedom fighters of all stripes must stop being naïve! Our survival depends on it.
I have said this once and I will say it a million times if necessary:
Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi, co-founders of Black Lives Matter, have never promoted, condoned, or sanctioned the use of violence in their fight to protect the lives of black people. So the question presents itself: “why has the FBI and the Department of Justice attempted to target them and demonize/ridicule their message?”
However, it is not just BLM that the FBI is targetting. The IWW & IWOC, the Free Alabama Movement, Amend the 13th, the New Abolitionist Movement, the Black Riders Liberation Party, the National Black United Front, the New Afrikan Black Panther Party, the Free Ohio Movement, and even the young solider of the people Kwame “Beans” Shakur in Indiana have all become a target of the “new wave” COINTELPRO tactics.
To be aware is to be alive.
Bennu Hannibal Ra-Sun, formerly known as Melvin Ray, is a key spokespersyn for the Free Alabama Movement who has crafted an amazing strategy for the way forward. I highly recommend every imprisoned and free world abolitionist read and study Bennu's essay: We are all Bound by the Same Chain.[6]
To our free world allies and supporters, I leave you some words of wisdom from Maurice Mitchell, an organizer with Blackbird. Mitchell says: “this continuing surveillance serves not only to keep tabs on black activists, but also to deter them from pushing forward. Surveillance is a tool of fear. When the police are videotaping you at a protest or pulling you over because you're a well-known activist – all of these techniques are designed to create a chilling effect on people's organizing. This is no different. The level of surveillance, however, isn't going to stop us. After all, we organize because our lives depend on it.”[7]
50 years ago, this beautiful, intelligent and passionate Black man, Dr Martin Luther King Jr, attempted to organize and educate all of us in respect to his “dream”. I haven't forgotten about the suicide letter the FBI crafted aimed at Brother Martin! I haven't forgotten about the tape the pigs played for our sister Corretta Scott King hoping to destroy the bond between her and her husband. And when every other tactic of the FBI failed, they conspired to have Dr King murdered in Memphis!
Yes! I see you, FBI, but do you see me? I represent a new generation of freedom fighters who have learned from the mistakes of our fallen ancestors, and even if you succeed in killing me, another, wiser and stronger, comrade, will take my place.
If anything I have said helps to awaken just one free world persyn or imprisoned humyn being and directs that persyn to action against this imperialist system I will have done my job.
I leave you with the words of Bennu Hannibal Ra-Sun:
“In 2016, we had one nationwide event on Sept. 9. In 2017, we had one nationwide event on Aug. 19. Now what? The government doesn’t take off. Our suffering goes on daily. Nationwide. Thus, it’s time for our planning and organizing of campaigns to expand, too... We have to be mobilizing and organizing people around a singular, clear cut plan to solve the problem.”[8]
I send a clenched fist salute to all sisters & brothers in the struggle. Dare to struggle, dare to win! All power to the people!

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: THE PERSON REFERRED TO IN THIS ESSAY AS “BIG BOY” IS A TEXAS INMATE NAMED MICHAEL LEWIS, ALSO CALLING HIMSELF MUSTAFA. HE IS AN AGENT PROVOCATEUR AND AN ENEMY TO THE MOVEMENT. PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION WHEN ENCOUNTERING THIS INDIVIDUAL. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
